WHAT ARE SPLIT ENDS?
Split ends are the splitting of the hair shaft and not only occur at the end of the hair shaft but can be caused anywhere on the length of the hair. There are many types of split ends, but today we’re going to cover the most common ones: double splits, partial splits & tree splits, which are the most worrysome!
TYPES OF SPLITENDS
Double splits are caused if you’re curling or straightening your hair too much or brushing your hair in a harsh way. Hair edges are really delicate so when you put stress on them by brushing or styling harshly it causes double split ends.
They are almost like double split ends, but are caused before the double spilt end kicks in. If you have partial split ends you don’t need to worry because they are just a start to a serious split end issue and can be fixed, and damage controlled by a quick trim.
Now these are the type of split ends that you need to worry about because they are the worst kind of split end damage that can’t be repaired. The only way to prevent them further is to get a chop. If you see a tree split that looks like a tree with branches it means your hair is in seriously bad shape and it also means that you have very dry hair that turned too weak resulting in split ends. It is highly recommended to trim at least a few inches of your hair every six to eight weeks in order to keep your hair in shape and to prevent the tree split.
CAUSES FOR SPLITENDS
- You are using hair styling tools and not using heat spray to prevent further damage.
- If you over wash your hair & use shampoo daily.
- Due to weather conditions when its too hot or cold.
- Lack of regular trimming.
- Brushing your hair wet.
Brush wisely and trim your hair
Pick the type of brush you use wisely for daily brushing. Choose a cushioned paddle brush with flexible bristles as it prevents damaging your hair and does not result in splitends.
Also, it’s been proven that regularly trimming your hair will actually help your hair to grow in a proper direction rather than splitting. So make sure your quarterly appointments are set with your salons to get a trim.
Use conditioner after you are done applying shampoo. Apply conditioner on the ends of the hair so that they are moisturized. Deep conditioning your hair regularly is a great way to keep your hair healthy.
Avoid Chemicals & heat tools
Avoid repeated chemical hair treatments that can damage your hair such as hair dyes, and keretin treatments etc.
If you have curly hair, don’t use a straightener every day. This can damage your hair which will cause split ends.
Oils are best for you
Do you remember the time gramdma told you to use oils because they are good for healthy hair. You probably never listened but she was right. It is cliche, but a true one!
Use avocado, olive, almond oil to make your hair strong enough so they dont split. These oils would improve your hair’s health and strengthen the hair.
Do not scrub and rub a towel. When the hair is wet it is more delicate and prone to damage. So when you rub your hair with a towel vulnerable hairs are then forced to crease and twist in many unnatural directions, thus promoting more breakage. So instead what you can do is, wrap a towel around hair and simply squeeze different areas to draw moisture out.
